None of our Guided Walks involve walking over extreme ground, and therefore do not require much in the way of specialist ‘gear’. However, unknown weather and terrain conditions does mean that you will need to come prepared for the ‘best and the worst’ of conditions, and be ready to chose what is actually needed on a day-by-day basis. Here are a few definite items you will need:
- A good pair of waterproof Walking Boots that have been well ‘worn-in’ - please do not arrive in brand-new Boots! Good walking shoes can be worn on some of the shorter walks in summertime, but whatever they are make sure that the laces are in good condition. N.B. Trainers are a definite ‘no’!
- Woollen socks, preferably a thin and a thick pair.
- A small Rucksack or Daysack.
- A ‘Sigg’ leak-proof Drinks Bottle or bottled water/juices with secure tops.
- Lightweight breathable Jacket, preferably with a built-in hood.
- Quick drying lightweight trousers - preferably breathable.
- Sun hat or cap.
- Suntan Lotion, Sun Screen, Lip salve or Sun Protection.
- A choice from several layers of thin shirts, t-shirts, sweaters, etc.
- Lightweight gloves for cooler mornings and evenings, waterproof insulated ‘thermal’ gloves for cold weather.
- Camera.
- Items required for any Theme, Activity or Hobby.
Items that may be useful:
- Trekking or Walking Pole.
- Map (OS Explorer 157) - Axford & Littlecote House requires additionally OS 158.
- Binoculars.
- ‘Gaiters’.
- Walking Boot Bag - be courteous to your hosts at your Hotel or B&B, or just to keep the interior of your car clean.
- Pedometer.
- Hand-held GPS - useful from Geocaching, Treasure Hunts, or just for fun!
- Dowsing Rods, Forked Hazel Twig or Pendulum.
- Fold-Up Umbrella.
Things that you won’t need on the walks:
- Mobile phone.
- MP3 Player or Radio.
- Full-sized Umbrella (these are most impractical in woodland and on windy days!)
You will be sent a checklist of things required in your Information Pack. A couple of days before your Guided Walk you may wish to check the weather forecast at:
